Light Bird
Birds make great sky-circles of their freedom
A 24” x 36” convex-formed mirror is mounted on a building, capturing and redirecting the sun’s rays to project the illusion of a radiant bird in flight onto the façade of the building across the street.
Guided by the arc of the sun, this ephemeral form shifts throughout the day, appearing and disappearing with the changing light. Over the course of 299 predicted sunny days in the coming year, the Lightbird will animate the urban canvas, a silent but dynamic presence that blurs the line between architecture, nature, and celestial movement.
The distortion of the bird’s wings, shaped by the curvature of the mirror, suggests a deeper narrative—one of climate change and its impact on species worldwide. As habitats shift and ecosystems are disrupted, the Lightbird becomes both a messenger and a question: How do we adapt, and what traces will remain of the creatures that once filled our skies?
